A couple of years ago I found this Haitian nativity, hewn from a piece of wood. A man named Calem carved it. He signed it in pencil on the back. Simple. Plain. Beautiful. Just like the night it all happened.
$3 will allow us to plant a banana tree that, within a year-and-a-half will produce a #100 pound banana bunch AND will reproduce, producing shoots that can be separated from the mother plant and planted elsewhere. $5 will allow us to plant a mango or avocado tree
$100 will place a biosand water filter in a family's home, providing enough safe, good tasting water for up to ten people. Thes filters remove all bacteria and parasites from bad water, making it safe to drink. These basic and durable filters last 10 years with very little maintenance.
$5 will place a Creole-language preschool level reader in the hands of a young Haitian child.
$20 will provide materials to build a latrine for a Haitian family

Calem is a gifted artist. Very beautiful. I wonder if he has found a way to provide an income for himself with this talent.
